It’s been far too long since we have celebrated our favorite pieces and artists on Etsy. With my 24th birthday coming up shortly I’ve been perusing the site rather often in search of gifts for myself. If you’re in the mood to partake in some retail therapy, have been meaning to fill that empty space on your bedroom wall or just feel like swooning over some artwork I highly recommend checking out our Etsy favorites.

(Those of you reading this on Livejournal or through some other RSS feed will need to come to the site in order for this javascript widget to show up for you.)

I can’t remember where I first saw Roberto Bernardi’s work. I do remember that it literally took my breath away. The picture you see above this text is a painting, not a photo. Looking at fruit like that makes me want to go raw again even more.

There isn’t much information on Roberto’s site. It’s my understanding that he takes photographs of “mundane” settings, prints them out and paints over them? Whatever his technique the results are astounding. Here is an excerpt from his biography:

After an initial foray with landscapes and portraits, Bernardi turned towards a more intense and spectacular type of painting; photorealism. In this style Bernardi is most comfortable expressing his creativity while satisfying his perfectionist technical goals. He applies layers of oil paint and varnish in the traditional manner to a totally modern image, creating a wholly contemporary, unique kind of image.

Artist Valerie Hegarty’s work has been quite popular around the web these days. Popping up on FFFFound!, BOOOOOOOM! & other sites of that nature. I’ve spent quite a while these past few weeks since first coming across her work trying to find more information on her and her work.

I was able to find this Guild & Greyshkul page (which is the closest to an official site I found for her) and this interview from her with Museo Magazine. Regardless of how much we know about her, the work is fascinating. Let’s take a look at some of my favorites:

The other night I was browsing through a bunch of different art blogs trying to find resources for Art News posts. I came across the most adorable and amazing posts I have seen in a long time. It featured a cat named Cooper that lives with a couple of film makers from Seattle (check out their site Cross Films). What makes Cooper the cat so special? He is following in his owners’ footsteps by becoming a photographer. That’s right, Cooper wears a special camera around his collar and documents the world around him.

Cooper has been taking his own pictures for over a year now! Once a week he wears this light weight digital camera fastened to his collar, which snaps a new photo every 2 minutes.
