Coilhouse Magazine — 45 Issues Left!

November 13th, 2008  |  Published in Art News, Promotion

I am here to report to all of you, my dear Carmine Magazine readers, that Coilhouse Magazine’s limited edition premier issue is down to 45 copies. For those of you that are unfamiliar with Coilhouse it can be described as:

INFORM, INSPIRE, INFECT:
A love letter to alternative culture, written in an era where alt culture no longer exists. On paper and on web, a collection of articles, interviews, rants, musings & imagery showcasing the planet’s bravest explorers of Ye Olde Future.

Coilhouse is one of the most important movements I have come across in many years. I don’t remember how I first heard about Zoetica Ebb’s art, but her livejournal account is where I first heard about Coilhouse.net and their mission to bring alternative culture back into everyone’s minds. I have been fortunate enough to read Coilhouse.net’s blog since the very beginning (which was the Fall of 2007).

Who knew that I would ever want to read an article about someone’s Craigslist Ad asking, very specifically, for someone to have sex with while playing Super Mario Brothers? I had never thought to consider What I would be wearing in space. I did know I have always been curious about What’s Zo Wearing? Without Coilhouse I would never have known when Nikola Tesla’s birthday is (it’s July 10th). I had never thought to compile a list of the Top 5 Alt Photo Cliches that can be done without. I never would have known that the people behind Dr. Horrible (Joss Whedon & Neil Patrick Harris) were ripping off popular internet sensation Doctor Steel (interviewed in Coilhouse’s premier issue) had Coilhouse not posted an article discussing the matter. There is also a very high probability that I would have never watched the amazing, touching short film Skywhales had it not been for Coilhouse.

The truth is, Coilhouse is very important right now. They get people talking, they encourage people that enjoy alternative to shop at places other that Hot Topic. They are lovely ladies. Their blog is wonderful, a must read, you can lose hours of time wandering through their pages. Their magazine? It’s bloody gorgeous. I mean that in the nicest possible way, it’s the prettiest magazine I have ever seen in my life. Forget traditional fashion magazines, if your favorite holiday happens to be Goth Christmas (Halloween), if you find yourself staring longingly at couture costumes or futuristic gadgetry in movies then Coilhouse magazine is absolutely the thing for you.

So please, for the love of all things goth, steamy, futuristic, and stylish pick up an unedited copy of Coilhouse Issue No. 1 right now.

Just a quick courtesy announcement to let you guys know that there are only 45 copies (out of 1,000) left of the limited edition Issue 01. So for any stragglers who wanted to order Issue 01 but put it off, now is your chance. We will be selling them until midnight on Friday, after which point the magazine will not be available on the site until Issue 02. We may eventually get some of the non-limited Issue 01’s back issues in stock, but it probably won’t happen for awhile.

If you’re still not convinced, please check out this post about the first issue of the magazine. You should also check out this interview that Gala Darling did with the three lovely Coilhouse editors and founders.

Me? I’ll continue to pour over the pages of the blog and drool over the pages of the print magazine until issue no. 2 comes out in a few months.

I always knew my job would be something creative-based, though it did take me a while to figure out how to viably pay rent through being creative. I am pretty busy at it though – which has an adverse effect on my social life! Art does consume most of my waking thoughts. — Kaitlin Beckett, Carmine Magazine Interview
